HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM PHISHING ATTACKS AND CYBER FRAUD

From fake videos using deepfakes to spam emails, fake discounts, and fraudulent rental ads, cybercriminals continue trickling victims into revealing sensitive information or installing malware on their devices. Here’s what users should pay attention to protect themselves from such attacks:

- Check the sender’s address before opening the email.

- Never download attachments from unsolicited messages that create a sense of urgency.

- Examine the message closely, and check for grammatical rules before clicking on any link with unbelievably great offers and deals.

- Do not provide personal or financial information to anyone who contacts you via email, social media, phone or text message.

- Use strong and unique passwords for all your online accounts. Always activate the 2FA feature of applications. Reset your passwords periodically, as your passwords may have fallen into the dark web due to the applications you use, even if not by you.

- Use a security solution with an anti-spam filter to prevent phishing attempts. Always use the latest version of all your applications. Remember that applications fix many security-related vulnerabilities with updates.

- Delete unsolicited or suspicious emails.

- Regularly review the applications on your device and delete unnecessary applications that you do not use. Be sure to check the access to the apps you use in the settings section and, as far as possible, only allow the relevant access when you use the app.
