iOS 16.1, which Apple announced last week to be distributed with iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura, has been released. Here are iOS 16.1 features!
Apple released iOS 16.1 this evening with iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura. It includes at least eight new features for iPhone users, including several bug fixes and support for iCloud Shared Photo Library and Live Events in third-party apps in the App Store.
iOS 16.1 features
Apple’s iOS 16 update can be downloaded over the air to eligible iPhones by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Due to high demand, updates may take a few minutes to roll out to all users.
With this update, Apple is adding a few features not included in the launch version of iOS 16. There’s support for iCloud Shared Photo Library to manage a photo library with friends and family. The update is 1.1 GB for iPhone 13. This size may vary depending on the device.
iOS 16.1 update release notes are as follows:
iCloud Shared Photo Library
- A separate archive for seamlessly sharing photos and videos with up to five other people
- Adjustment rules allow you to easily contribute old photos by start date or people in the photos when setting up or joining an archive
- Archive filters to easily switch between viewing the Shared Archive, your Personal Archive, or both
- Shared edits and permissions allow anyone to add, edit, favorite, caption, and delete photos
- The sharing option in the Camera allows you to choose whether to send the photos you take directly to the Shared Library or to activate the automatic sharing setting when other participants are detected to be nearby using Bluetooth
Live Events
Live Events from third-party apps can be found in Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro models and on the locked screen.
Wallet
Key sharing allows you to securely share car keys, hotel room keys and other keys in Wallet using messaging apps like Messages and WhatsApp
Home
Supports Matter, the new smart home connectivity standard that enables many smart home accessories to work together across multiple ecosystems
Books
Reader controls are automatically hidden when you start reading
This update also includes bug fixes for your iPhone:
- Deleted conversations appear in the conversation list in Messages
- Dynamic Island content is unavailable when using Reachability
- CarPlay cannot connect when using a VPN app
- It is worth noting that some features are not available in all regions or on all Apple devices
